Adherence Planning

Adherence Planning

Medical adherence is defined as the degree a patient complies with the agreed recommendations from a healthcare provider. Medical non-adherence is a serious widespread issue that leads to poor health outcomes, lower quality of life and rising healthcare costs. 20 – 30% of written prescriptions are never completed by patients. Around 50% of all medications for chronic conditions are not taken as prescribed.

Missing medication doses leads to a patient’s condition worsening. They can start developing preventable complications, disease progression, acute events and hospitalisations, putting extra strain on the healthcare systems. The unused medication comes at a huge cost too; wasted prescriptions cost England’s NHS an enormous £330 million every year. No one wants to see their taxes go to waste.
