Why travel vaccinations are crucial for a safe trip
Travel health is not only about exotic diseases. Most problems abroad are preventable, and a short consultation before you fly removes a lot of risk.
Risk depends on the details
Two people visiting the same country can face very different risks depending on whether they stay in a city hotel or trek rurally, and for how long.
That is why a good travel consultation asks about your itinerary, activities and accommodation, not just your destination.
Timing is the part people get wrong
Some vaccines need several weeks to give full protection, and some courses need more than one dose.
Book four to six weeks before departure where possible. Late is still better than not at all.
Beyond vaccines
Malaria prevention, food and water safety, insect bite avoidance, sun protection and a sensible travel kit matter just as much.
If you take regular medicines, plan doses across time zones and carry a letter listing what you have with you.
Keep your record
Ask for written confirmation of every vaccine given. It saves repeating doses later and is useful for future trips.
In short
Bring your itinerary and previous vaccination records to your appointment, and book as early as you can.
