Managing asthma and allergies with pharmacy support

Asthma and allergies are usually managed at home, between appointments. That is where pharmacy support is most useful, because small practical changes compound.

Inhaler technique is the biggest easy win

A large proportion of people use their inhaler in a way that delivers far less medicine than intended. Timing, breath depth and whether you use a spacer all matter.

A few minutes of hands-on coaching in the pharmacy often improves control without changing a single prescription.

Know your triggers, then plan for them

Pollen, dust, pets, cold air, exercise, smoke and viral illness are the common ones. Most people have two or three.

Once you know yours, you can prepare. That might mean starting antihistamines before pollen season rather than after symptoms begin.

Have a written plan

A plan that states your usual treatment, what to do when symptoms worsen and when to seek urgent help removes guesswork on a bad day.

We can help you build one and make sure it matches what your GP has prescribed.

Check progress with objective testing

Peak flow at home and spirometry in the pharmacy turn a subjective feeling into a measurement you can track through the year.

In short

Bring your inhalers to the pharmacy and ask for a technique check. It is the single most valuable ten minutes in asthma care.
